Human Resource Market in IT and Digital Marketing in 2018: The crisis is amplifying, the battle for Talents is getting hotter!
The crisis in the labour market will increase this year and firms will lead a real war for recruiting employees. These are the estimates from entrepreneurs and specialists surveyed by companies in the first edition of the “Semestrial Barometer on Labor Market Outlook”. 72% of over 150 businessmen surveyed estimate that 2018 will be a real challenging year to find and retain qualified employees for IT and especially Digital Marketing. Here are skills for digital marketing specialists, we described.
Asked about the labor market crisis this year, 72% of respondents said the phenomenon would increase this year, 22% believe the situation will remain at the same level as in 2017, while 6% have avoided answering, considering that, in the current macroeconomic context, it is difficult to predict what will happen in the coming months.
Note*: Private data of respondents and resources are protected.
“The crisis and the war for talents will grow in 2018. There are industries where there are few specialists, are industries that are growing so fast that the market does not cope. War is no longer only conducted at management level, but even at entry level and specialists. Why? The market is not very educated from the point of view of human resources, the Y generation is a difficult, hard-to-loyalize”, said a CEO of a leading global consultancy firm.

Fiscal changes, toxic for economy
Entrepreneurs and HR experts are concerned about the impact of tax changes that have entered into force this year and the prospects for new decisions (changing the tax regime for liberal professions, introduction of progressive taxes, etc.), many of which will agitate the business environment.
Asked about the extent to which tax decisions (shift of employee contributions, lower corporate tax, etc.) will affect the labour market in 2018, 85% of respondents said they will have a negative effect, 12% said the impact in the sector activates will be relatively low, while 3% said they did not have all the data to give an answer.
“The transfer of social contributions to the employees involved the increase in gross wages (either by modifying employment contracts or by granting bonuses) in order to secure the same net salaries. Because companies cannot be forced to raise gross wages (business did not consider this transfer appropriate), labour market imbalances may occur. Moreover, the increase in gross salaries implies a high administrative effort / additional costs for companies with many employees.”
Survey
Tax changes should have a normal frequency and a normal deadline until they are implemented in order to not increase some employee anxiety and to not block development/investment initiatives from companies/employers. All Human Resources Executive Directors agree.
What matters most, the salary or the company?
2018 will be the year in which job offers will increasingly diversify the range of services. It will not be enough just a good salary to hire a professional. Asked about the main advantages that will make the difference between the companies’ offers in 2018, 68% of the respondents mentioned the salary package, 54% reminded of the strength of the firm, and 40% indicated the additional services available to the employees (training, attending events and conferences, etc.).
The flexibility of the work program (23%) and the possibility of professional development and promotion (19%) were also on the list of the most important advantages mentioned by businessmen and HR experts.
“Salary is and will remain important, but it is not as important as a few years ago. It is important to have the location- with an extraordinary increase in remote work, the opportunity to have work-life balance, flexibility, professional development and promotion, managers who are also leaders”, says one of the best HR Manager from an IT talents-hunting company.
“Investing in personal development has become more important at a certain level than earning.” More and more employees have realized that developing personal skills through training, specializations, workshops can be even more important, at a certain moment. The more you develop your professional skills, the ability to adapt to change, the more you will have more chances to make progress in your career, and the story does not end here. The same approaches are starting to have companies that invest more and more in the training of staff, meaning that their main resource in making profits is the human one. And this change has been already strong in the past two years, not just in IT and Digital Marketing firms”, a manager said.

The most requested jobs in 2018
According to the “Semestrial Barometer on Labor Market Outlook”, the fields that will attract the most dynamic evolution in the human resources market this year will be IT and Digital Marketing.
74% of surveyed managers consider that the 2018 labour market star will be the IT sector that will continue to generate the most dynamic evolution in the human resources market. In the next places, the top-ranked in the investors’ opinions were the retail sector, mentioned by 68% of respondents, the construction sector (52%), the services (48%), the medical and pharmaceutical sector (34%), customer support (21%) and the car industry, with related services (18%).
“I think IT and Digital Marketing will remain the areas with the highest dynamics in 2018. All these areas will continue to automate the processes.”
“In 2018, human resource platforms will consolidate and expand services, with beneficial effects in all branches of the economy, including from the perspective of labour productivity,” says a manager.
Should we change something?
From the discussions with entrepreneurs and with employees, obviously a change of attitude takes place in both camps.
From the perspective of employees in the past, when, for a good salary, many were willing to sacrifice their whole day and free time. For many of them, the job tends to become just a step, not the end, to personal development.
For employers, the employee becomes more and more a capital, “when anyone can be replaced if he does not respect the employer’s decisions,” is about to fall. In a market where the demand for the quality workforce is highly disproportionate to supply, the balance will only be found to the extent that both sides will accept the partnership relationship, with all its benefits and obligations.
